Oban Holiday Park – Safety & Park Rules
Your safety is important to us. We want everyone staying at Oban Holiday Park to enjoy a safe and relaxing break on Scotland’s west coast.
Whether you’re staying in one of our lodges and pods or joining us for Touring & Camping at Oban, please familiarise yourself with the following safety information and follow any instructions or signage around the park.
Important Water Information
Oban Holiday Park is supported by natural water springs.
We have started an ongoing improvement project for the water quality and advise guests to boil any water they intend to consume, or drink bottled water.
Please follow any additional water information or instructions provided by our team during your stay.
We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Campsite & Fire Safety
Safe Pitch Spacing
Safe spacing between tents, caravans and motorhomes helps reduce the risk of fire spreading between pitches.
As a general rule, there should be at least 6 metres between neighbouring touring units.
Tents and touring units should also be positioned with suitable clearance from site roads and park boundaries. As a general guide, allow at least 2 metres from site roads and 3 metres from site boundaries.
Please:
- stay within your allocated pitch;
- follow the pitch layout and any instructions provided by our team;
- don’t move your unit closer to a neighbouring pitch; and
- keep roads, paths, fire points and emergency access routes clear.
If you’re unsure where to position your tent, caravan or motorhome, please speak to our team before setting up.
Awnings
Awnings need to be positioned carefully so they don’t compromise the safe separation between pitches.
Allow at least 3 metres between an awning and a neighbouring caravan or touring unit.
Awnings should not touch neighbouring units or awnings and should not directly face another awning.
Awnings should not be used as additional sleeping accommodation.
Please keep your awning and associated equipment within your allocated pitch.
Barbecues & Camping Stoves
Never Use a Barbecue or Camping Stove Inside a Tent
Never light or use a barbecue, camping stove, gas burner, charcoal appliance or other fuel-burning cooking equipment inside a tent or enclosed sleeping space.
This is dangerous even if a door, window or tent flap is open.
Barbecues, camping stoves and other fuel-burning appliances can produce carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon monoxide cannot be seen, smelled or tasted and can cause serious illness or death.
Never take a used or cooling barbecue inside a tent or enclosed accommodation. A barbecue can continue to produce carbon monoxide while cooling, even when there is no visible flame.
Using a Barbecue Safely
Where barbecues are permitted, please:
- only use them outdoors in a well-ventilated location;
- position them away from tents, caravans, motorhomes and other combustible materials;
- place them on a stable and suitable surface;
- keep children and pets safely away;
- never leave a lit or hot barbecue unattended; and
- make sure it is completely extinguished and cold after use.
Never place a disposable barbecue directly onto a surface that could burn or be damaged by heat.
Never place hot charcoal, ashes or disposable barbecues in general waste bins.
Open Fires
Open fires, bonfires and campfires are not permitted on the park.
Please follow any additional fire-safety instructions or temporary restrictions communicated by our team.
Gas & LPG Safety
Gas cylinders, camping stoves and other gas appliances should only be used for their intended purpose and must be kept in safe condition.
Keep gas cylinders secure and away from sources of heat and ignition.
Never attempt to modify or repair gas equipment during your stay.
If you smell gas or suspect a leak:
- Don’t smoke or light a flame.
- Avoid anything that could create a spark.
- Turn off the gas supply if it is safe to do so.
- Move away from the immediate area.
- Contact our team.
If there is an immediate danger or emergency, call 999.
Electrical Safety
If you’re using an electrical hook-up, only use electrical equipment suitable for touring and camping use.
Please:
- use the electrical hook-up allocated to your pitch;
- protect cables and connections from water and damage;
- don’t overload sockets or extension leads;
- keep cables away from roads and pedestrian routes where possible; and
- never tamper with the park’s electrical equipment.
If you notice damage, excessive heat, sparks, a burning smell or another electrical problem, stop using the equipment and contact our team.
Fire Points & Emergency Access
Please familiarise yourself with the location of your nearest fire point when you arrive.
Fire points, roads and emergency access routes must be kept clear at all times.
Never position a vehicle, tent, awning or other equipment where it could prevent access to emergency equipment or restrict an emergency vehicle.
What to Do if You Discover a Fire
If you discover a fire:
- Raise the alarm immediately.
- Move yourself and everyone with you to a safe location.
- Call 999 and ask for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
- Give the operator the name of the holiday park and your location within it.
- Alert a member of our team as soon as it is safe to do so.
Never put yourself at risk attempting to fight a fire.
Hot Tub Safety
If your accommodation includes a private hot tub, please familiarise yourself with our Hot Tub Rules before use.
To help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment:
- shower before entering the hot tub and remove fake tan and make-up;
- don’t add bubble bath or other bath products;
- don’t use glass in or around the hot tub;
- take particular care around alcohol, drugs and medication, which can increase the risk of dizziness or unconsciousness;
- take care when entering and leaving the hot tub as surrounding surfaces may be wet; and
- don’t interfere with the hot tub equipment or water treatment.
Our hot tubs are normally maintained at approximately 37.5-38°C.
Our team visits daily to check chemical levels and help maintain water quality and safety.
Hot tubs automatically power down at midnight and power up again at 5am.
If you have any concerns about your hot tub or its water quality, please stop using it and contact our team.
Children & Young People
Children remain the responsibility of their parent, guardian or supervising adult during their stay.
Please take particular care around park roads, vehicles, barbecues and cooking equipment, hot tubs, electrical equipment and other potential hazards around the park.
Vehicles & Moving Around the Park
Please follow the signed speed limits and road signage throughout the park.
Remember that park roads are shared spaces and may be used by pedestrians, children and other guests.
Please park in the appropriate areas and keep roads, entrances and emergency access routes clear.
Weather & Outdoor Safety
Weather on Scotland’s west coast can change quickly, so please take appropriate care when staying outdoors.
Secure tents, awnings and outdoor equipment appropriately, particularly during windy conditions.
Paths, grass, decking and other outdoor surfaces can become wet or slippery, so please wear appropriate footwear and take extra care during poor weather.
Always follow temporary safety notices or instructions from our team.
Waste & Campsite Hygiene
Please use the designated waste, recycling and campsite disposal facilities provided.
Chemical toilet waste and waste water should only be emptied at the appropriate designated facilities.
Never dispose of hot barbecue charcoal or ashes in general waste or recycling bins.
Report a Safety Concern
If you notice anything around the park that you believe could present a safety risk, please let our team know as soon as possible.
For an immediate threat to life or a serious emergency, call 999.
Thank you for helping us keep Oban Holiday Park safe for everyone.
Barbecues, Camping Stoves & Fire Safety
Disposable BBQs
Disposable BBQs are not permitted on the park.
Disposable BBQs present a particular fire and safety risk because they:
- can cause grass and wildfires if they are not properly extinguished, particularly during hot and dry weather;
- can allow hot ash or embers to be carried by the wind towards tents, accommodation or dry vegetation;
- can remain extremely hot for several hours after use;
- continue to produce carbon monoxide as they cool, making them dangerous if taken into a tent or other enclosed space;
- can leave the ground dangerously hot after they have been removed; and
- can pose a risk to wildlife and create unnecessary waste.
Please do not bring or use disposable BBQs anywhere on the park.
Using Other BBQs Safely
Where other types of BBQ are permitted, please:
- only use them outdoors in a well-ventilated location;
- use designated locations where these are provided;
- position them well away from tents, caravans, motorhomes, accommodation, vehicles and dry vegetation;
- place them on a stable, suitable and non-combustible surface;
- keep children and pets safely away;
- never leave a lit or hot BBQ unattended;
- be particularly careful during hot, dry or windy weather; and
- make sure the BBQ, coals and ashes are completely extinguished and cold after use.
Hot coals, ashes or other BBQ waste must only be disposed of safely and when completely cold. Never place hot coals or ashes in general waste or recycling bins.
Open Fires & Wildfire Risk
Open fires, bonfires and campfires are not permitted on the park.
During periods of hot, dry or windy weather, the risk of grass and wildfire can increase significantly. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service may issue wildfire warnings when conditions create a particularly high risk.
Additional restrictions on BBQs, outdoor cooking equipment or other potential ignition sources may therefore be introduced when conditions require them.
Please follow all temporary fire-safety notices and instructions provided by the park team during your stay.
